Secret Melbourne

Have we got a cheat sheet for you! En Pointe Events are a Melbourne based events company who have gifted us with their ultimate list of secret Melbourne locations to host your next event in. The beginning of a series of cheat sheets, this one focuses on your more intimate events - thinking engagement, wedding reception or just a plain old (fancy) boozy lunch? Look no further, En Pointe Events have done the hard work for you...

"We have adventured through Melbourne; enduring long decadent lunches, cocktails, and many a champagne so that you can host your next event in the most wonderful of spaces.

We begin this series on favourite locations with secret spaces for smaller events. Think private dining for 20, refreshing spaces for workday brainstorms, intimate celebrations… debauchery, dancing and much deliciousness.

So here goes!

ENTRECOTE, SOUTH YARRA

She can be loud, ridiculous, tongue in cheek, delicious, fun, local, raucous, approachable, lovable, drunk, open all hours ... but above all, the Old Maison is full of laughter, friends, and general gaieté.

A little bit of Paris in South Yarra, this grand old dame sits across from the beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens & has two dedicated event spaces. The Cloud Room catches the morning light and is perfect for breakfast meetings, lunch or family dinner parties (for between 8 – 14 guests).

Their Balcony Room features ornate high ceilings, a private bar and Victorian lace balcony overlooking the gardens. An enchanting, flexible space suitable for up to 35 seated guests or 60 for cocktail parties. Think French 75s, baked langoustine, their namesake Steak Frites, crème brûlée and profiteroles.

CIRCA @ THE PRINCE, ST KILDA

Food comes first at Circa. Head Chef Rhys Blackley creates a visionary menu; season eating with a spirit of fun and exploration, unstructured and eclectic.

Most people connect Circa with their glamorous upper-level event space, The Deck & Pool BUT this time, we want to celebrate their restaurant, private dining room, balcony room and Atrium bar. Beautiful spaces that can all be booked independently (or collectively), to create your own private restaurant for the day or night.

THE EVERLEIGH, FITZROY

A night at The Everleigh is a unique Melbourne experience. After entering through an American diner, walking down a dim-lit hallway and climbing a few stairs, you are whisked back in time to a bar reminiscent of the golden era, dedicated to classic cocktails and service.

A constant contender for Best Bar & Cocktails, The Everleigh Elk Room is a moody, luxurious 20s inspired cocktail bar complete with library, peacocks and chesterfields.

Perfect for a night of decadence, debauchery and deliciousness, The Elk Room can fit 80 for stand up soirees or 30 guests for a seated event (think devilled eggs, toasted reubens & sidecars).

CASA CIUCCIO, FITZROY

Translation: The House of the Cheeky Donkey! The upstairs bar, terrace, and intimate dining room feel like you’re in someone’s home… Albeit a super cool, Fitzroy home you could only dream of complete with in-house chefs!

With space for 40 for sit down or 80 for cocktail event, think family feasts including coalpit-roasted chicken, pulled pork cheek croqueta and house-made ricotta gnocchi with scampi, artichoke & truffle. Casa Ciuccio has oodles of charisma and a cosy ambience which makes it easy to say yes please to another Malbec and no to going home!

THE BUILDERS ARMS, FITZROY

Chinese restaurants within Australian pubs are nothing new. They hark back to the days of country pubs of the 1960s and 1970s, where Chinese restaurants juxtaposed with neighbourhood public houses.

Two private dining spaces are being given new life with the launch of Andrew McConnell’s latest restaurant concept, Ricky & Pinky – a Chinese restaurant housed within the Builders Arms. Think playful fun, bold, authentic food & generous, sharp service (oh, and fish tanks!)

The hardest decision for you is whether to go the great European influenced menus of the Builders Arms Hotel or the new energetic menus of Ricky & Pinky.

Now onto the spaces… The Bowery can hold up to 60 guests for a seated event or 90 for a cocktail event and is a warm space with an open kitchen and contemporary lighting. The PDR is an intimate space with leafy views over Gertrude Street. It is designed for up to 18 guests and features eclectic art and a vinyl collection & player.

FRENCH SALOON, MELBOURNE CBD

Spanning the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, French Saloon borrows from the decadence and familiarity of the Parisian bar & Bistro, while finding common ground with the enjoyment of raucous company, a sense of mischief and the unchecked frontiers of the west.

The Salon de Thè is a secluded, handsome private dining room, overlooking Hardware Lane. Long iron-framed windows flood the space with natural light, while weathered original floorboards, elegant wall panelling and delicate cut glass chandeliers contrast the magnificent timber table set with bentwood chairs.

With capacity for 20, imagine a lunch of house-cured meats and pickles, king salmon served with cauliflower, capers and braised gem, and wattle seed brûlée for dessert (and be tempted by caviar and perhaps a cheese table to finish)!

WEBSITE

POPE JOAN, BRUNSWICK

So, who’s this Pope Joan? The Medieval Legend, the woman who passed as a man.

A trio of local dining houses conceived by industry guns, Ben Foster & chef Matt Wilkinson… A genuine celebration of seasonal produce with the food ethos: "It’s simple – Mother Nature tells us what’s on and what’s not."

Saturday & Sunday nights are kept sacred for private events - allowing you to create your dream event across gorgeous dining rooms, bar and outdoor courtyard for up to 120 guests. For more intimate events, workshops and luncheons, the Garden Room is a perfect oasis amongst the foliage – accommodating up to 20 guests.
