April 7th, 2012 was the day it all began. After some brief but exciting courting, a first date at Gold Class and a mutual love of fashion was the catalyst to what we now know as George + Mitchell. So compatible are these two that it only took 6 months from the time of their first date for George’s charm to intrigue Mitchell to the point of no return, and for them to find themselves living together and looking only towards an extremely bright future.
Fast forward a few years down the track and George surprises Mitchell with a trip to Fiji, a room at the breathtaking Hilton resort and a beautiful private dinner on the beach. Although Mitchell did suspect something while they enjoyed their first class dining experience on the beach, to his disappointment the dinner ended without a proposal. After enjoying a walk back to their private villa though, to Mitchell’s surprise, he walked in to see the entire suite filled with rose petals and candles. Turning back around he then saw George down on one knee, proposing. With no hesitation, Mitchell said “Yes!”
And so the planning for a wedding date of October 15th, 2016 began. A renowned bridal designer, George wanted to create each piece of the grooms and groomsmaids attire from scratch. To form his vision of the ultimate wedding party, George made the decision to dress the groomsmaids in all white wedding gowns! Each gown was handmade couture, floor length and all together they were created to mirror a runway collection. Well, as far as we’re concerned – this was a mission accomplished! All the fabrics were custom designed for the collection and hand made specifically for each groomsmaid. Each gown had a fitted fishtail train while the rest of the design ranged from long sleeved to low cut necklines and some even featured high elongating splits. They were finished with illusion mesh necklines and a final touch of silk covered buttons.
For his own garments, George wanted to create something that reflected his own style and was clearly one of a kind. All black everything is a personal favourite of George’s, so his jacket had to be all black with a tremendous amount of beading. The beading was designed to mimic a masculine lace with bold swirls, and the overall design was tailored to fit George’s body with back panels that flowed down into a fabulous tail.
To top off the creative genius that is the appearance of this wedding party, Mitchell also designed his own suit - choosing 17th century Baroque fashion interpreted into a contemporary piece of art. Navy and gold beading encompassed the jacket with intricate detail to create structure, while gold leaves and beads offered relief by dripping down from the shoulders. One of our favourites, Viktoria Novak, custom designed Mitchell’s crown with the ornate gold leaf crown curated to match the jacket and mimicking an olive wreath. For shoes to match such amazing creations, Christian Louboutin was the only choice.
On the day, hair was styled by the popular hairstylist, Natalie Anne, and make up was crafted by Melissa Sassine. Both were given free rein over the groomsmaids hairstyles and make up looks, and together they managed to achieve looks that not only suited each person but were also uniform and cohesive.
Michael Arthur was commissioned to create the rings for George + Mitchell, with direction from each groom. George chose an 18ct white gold black diamond wedding band featuring 19 princess cut black diamonds with a total weight of 9.00cts, while Mitchell chose a classic 18ct Yellow gold slightly round wedding band with custom laser cut "George" engraving on the outer side.
To capture their day on film, George + Mitchell had their heart set on Shayben Moussa of Siempre Photography. As they tell it “We love Siempre’s work and their timeless photography; their passion for capturing amazing photos and unforgettable moments is what they do best.”
Young, fresh and energetic were what George + Mitchell had in mind when they were on the search for the perfect celebrant. After researching for days, they came across a relatively new celebrant, David Lang. After their first meeting and chatting with him for over an hour they knew he was the one!
When searching for the venue, George + Mitchell were looking for a beautiful pine forest where they could say their vows amongst whimsical trees. When they found it, it was love at first sight. All View Escape, in Blackheath in the Blue Mountains had everything they were looking for, and more. Just a short distance from the property’s pine forest, the trees opened onto a small clearing that overlooked the breathtaking mountains and cliffs of Blackheath. It was there, overlooking the stunning cliffs that they decided to position the marquee where they would celebrate into the night with their family and friends.
The wedding itself was styled and coordinated by Cristina Lubarda. Her eclectic vision was channelled into making the wedding look and feel enchanted. George + Mitchell collaborated with Cristina throwing ideas back and forth until all the details were finalised, from the enchanted ceremony that featured a back drop of wisteria to the marquee adorned with crisp whites and contrasts of greens, complimented by hints of gold from cutlery and table placements. Susan from Little Confetti Love came on board to create all the stationery; with menus, table numbers and the seating chart all hand written.
For the floral artistry you can see in the images, Ashleigh from Clementine Posy was the florist of choice. From the beautiful ceremony backdrop to the marquee entrance and everything in between, Clementine Posy truly made the day and the venue unforgettable. The overall look was lush, organic, unexpected, vintage inspired and - enchanted.
The wedding party and guests were fed by Art Kitchen Catering – a team that pride themselves on creating imaginative food, beautifully presented with unsurpassed attention to detail and a dash of theatre for good measure. After the ceremony, the guests made their way down to the marquee to admire the mountain views where they were greeted with canapés and antipasto. The main meals were share platters that included roast fillet of beef, smoked chicken and slow roasted lamb shoulder accompanied by sides of grilled veggies with toasted pine nuts and porky potato salad. Dessert followed, which consisted of snickers brownies, s’mores and mango and coconut panna cottas.
Throughout the night, guests could choose from two signature cocktails chosen by George + Mitchell; a strawberry mojito and a lychee cocktail. They were also treated to take home jars of Nutella, which had originally been their place cards!
Overall, and within every detail, George + Mitchell’s wedding was an event that some of us may believe could only exist within a fairy tale. However, instead their desire to create something one of a kind and truly amazing resulted in a fairy tale literally coming to life. The images, as you can see, are simply breathtaking. Enjoy!
