An Uncommon Space

The quest to find the perfect venue possessing a unique and yet transformable space is often exhausting, long and kind of not the most enjoyable process once you are in the thick of it. So if you don’t mind, we have a little recommendation for you! We have (unashamedly) been fans of and following Uncommon on social media since they flung open their doors in December 2015, but it was only last week that we finally popped in for a visit to see what all the fuss and hype was about...

RESULT: We can now confirm that the fuss and hype is legitimate people.

By day, Uncommon is Windsor’s newest foodie destination, offering up some fabulous coffee on some gorgeous silver trays along with delicious bites for breakfast and lunch - all of which are available in take away too which we think is great as it’s not too common a service from your higher end brekkie/lunch eateries these days – as well as cakes and sweet treats that are “basically a salad” they’re made from such clean ingredients. More on that later though.

If we’re honest, the thing we found most intriguing about Uncommon is that by night, it can transform into something that really tickles our fancy and is the basis of today’s in-the-know ally recommendation – Uncommon is also an event space that is unique, transformable, in a good locale and willing to work out boutique function and event packages to suit basically any taste. Jackpot!

For a little bit of background; Uncommon is the brain child of Alex Luk and Will Newton of Paradise Found Projects - two friends with a shared design, food and plant fetish who wanted eating well and eating right to be achievable on the same plate. Alex and Will found the space, designed the interior, brought together the team and now manage the business together. #lifegoals.

Found within a heritage-protected Victorian building which was once an antiques workshop, the space features high ceilings, hanging gardens and original features such as the stunning wrought iron gates which frame the entrance. These little touches of old world charm coupled with the white walls and pops of nature make the venue a spectacular setting for engagement parties and wedding receptions, as well as all kinds of varied events.

Stylists are welcomed into the space and Alex and Will have already compiled an accomplished list of stylists they have worked with previously, and who therefore know the space well. Together with stylists, the Uncommon crew can also put you in touch with planners, florists, installation artists and other event specialists – talk about some in-the-know allies for your recommendation list - these guys have got it down.

In terms of the food, Uncommon's Head Chef, Matt Kennedy, has created a wholefoods-based, modern Australian menu that showcases the best of farm direct, ethically sourced produce and native botanicals. Dishes are interesting, fresh, flavoursome, and free from chemically processed ingredients like refined sugar or bleached flour. This is what we were talking about earlier, who knew healthy sustainable food could be so damn interesting? For functions, all of the food and beverage packages are fully flexible and can be tailored for your event at no extra charge.

Uncommon is serving it’s coffee and delicious a la carte menu from 7am – 3.30pm weekdays, and from 8am – 3.30pm on weekends, which means the space is available for events 7 days a week from 5pm – 11pm. Fully licensed, the room can accommodate up to 75 guests for a seated event and up to 100 guests for a cocktail style event.
